Kaymer knows why he's ranked third behind Westwood and Donald

England's Lee Westwood and Luke Donald top the world golf rankings at the moment -- and the player who has been pushed down to No. 3 can see why.

Germany's Martin Kaymer had led the way earlier this year, only to be shunted down the order by those two.

"I think the perfect player at the moment would be the long game from Lee Westwood and the short game from Luke Donald," said Kaymer.

The trio are all at Finca Cortesin on the Costa del Sol this week competing for a first prize of nearly $1 million at the Volvo World Match Play Championship.

"I think my records in the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, the Match Play this year speak for themselves,” said Donald, who beat Kaymer in the final of the WGC-Accenture Match Play in February. "I enjoy the challenge of one against one over 18 holes.

"We play a lot of individual stroke play and match play is a different feel and mindset,” he added. “It's certainly nice to break it up."

Donald, with 12 top-10 finishes in his last 13 tournaments, could go to no. 1 for the first time on Sunday, although Westwood is seeking his third successive title after wins in Indonesia and Korea.

Despite their form, the bookmakers still have Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson as the two favorites for the U.S. Open next month.

"That's because people are still putting money on Tiger -- they believe in him," said Donald, who with Westwood thrashed Woods and Steve Stricker 6&5 at Celtic Manor last October.

Asked if it was a true reflection of the current situation, though, he added: "Probably not, but obviously he (Woods) needs to prove that he's playing a little bit better.

"Obviously Tiger has had some personal issues and it's affected him on the course a little bit,” he added. "And now, with his added injury scare, there's a little bit more of an unknown there."
