European Tour pro hits 500 balls from 145 yards in 12 hours trying to make just one ace

Have you ever reached a short par 3 on the golf course and thought to yourself, "If I could park it here all day and hit shots, I could definitely make an ace?"

Admit it. You have. We all have.

Now, thanks to our friends at the European Tour, you never have to wonder again. Simply put, that idea is preposterous.

The folks at the European Tour gave Italy's Edoardo Molinari 12 hours and 500 golf balls in perfect conditions on a 145-yard par 3 to make a hole-in-one.

Molinari, mind you, is no slouch. He won the 2005 U.S. Amateur, he's a three-time European Tour winner and was a member of the victorious European Ryder Cup team at Celtic Manor in Wales in 2010.

The odds of a professional golfer making an ace are 2,500-to-1. The European Tour set out to see if Molinari could defy them.

Check out this five-minute video of the 12-hour day that starts with Molinari saying, "Now, let's pray for a hole-in-one."

Great, great video. First takeaway: Can you believe how close Molinari came to an ace on his first shot?! That was amazing. He may not have hit a closer shot the entire day.

Throughout the video, he flirts with an ace several times, hits the stick once and basically does everything but can one.

Watching Molinari run the gamut of emotions from optimistic, to mad, to almost delirious was fun too (sorry, Eduardo!).

He'd hit one he was sure would go in and then, poof, back the wind flies out of the sails and he's back to square one.

Just a fun video and a great reminder that an ace is nothing but luck.
