Thomas Pieters drives the green on 407-yard hole at Dunhill Championship

The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship began Thursday morning, bringing together European Tour players and amateurs in one of the more distinctive events in the world. Players compete on a bucket list of golf courses throughout the weekend: The Old Course at St. Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and Kingsbarn Golf Links.

One of the stars at event is the big-hitting Belgian Thomas Pieters, who impressed as a captain's pick on the European Ryder Cup team last week.

During Thursday's opening round at Carnoustie, Pieters took aim on the 407-yard seventh hole and found the green. Take a look for yourself here:

Pieters ended up two-putting for an easy birdie. Sure, it's not Happy Gilmore hitting the green on the fly from 400 yards, but we'll take a roll like that anyday.

Pieters’ blast was impressive but not quite as big as the 447-yard rocket Nicolas Colsaerts unleashed during the 2014 Wales Open, believed to be the longest drive in European Tour history.

Just because we love long drives, here’s Rory McIlroy with a 436-yard blast at the 2014 Scottish Open. Check out the camera person trying to follow this one!

In case you were wondering, the longest drive this season on the PGA Tour was Justin Thomas' 414-yard poke at the Bridgestone Invitational. Pieters' drive at the Dunhill would would rank as the fourth longest drive on the PGA Tour this season
