5 great golf course moments in 2017

Throughout the course of a golf season, there are countless great moments.

Most of them aren't caught on camera, but -- lucky us -- some of them are.

Here's a look at five of our favorite moments from 2017 on the golf course.

5. John Daly honors Arnold Palmer on his way to PGA Tour Champions win

What happened: Back in May at the Insperity Invitational on the PGA Tour Champions, John Daly was strolling to his first victory on any Tour since the 2004 Buick Invitational.

As a tribute to Arnold Palmer, the King's famous umbrella logo was painted on the 18th fairway at the Woodlands, site of the tournament.

As he approached the green, Daly took the time to kneel down and kiss the logo to pay his respects to the King.

 

 

4. The Justin Thomas putt that took forever to drop at the PGA Championship

What happened: It was tight for most of the final round at Quail Hollow.

At the par-5 10th hole, Thomas had a birdie putt from less than 10 feet that inexplicably stopped right on the edge of the cup. He walked away stunned, in total disbelief that the ball didn't drop.

And then, it did drop -- 10 seconds from when it stopped moving. The crowd went nuts and Thomas gave an enthusiastic tip of the cap. It will go down as one of the most memorable putts in PGA Championship history.

It was a big moment on the way to Thomas' first major win.

3. Danielle Kang gets emotional after winning KPMG Women's PGA Championship

What happened: After a promising amateur career in which she won back-to-back U.S. Women's Amateurs (2010, 2011), Kang's professional career got off to a slow start.

It didn't help that her father died from brain and lung cancer in just her second LPGA season.

"I think that it's been a really difficult road for me for the past four or five years," Kang said at Olympia Fields. "It's life, though. You have to pick yourself up, and you have to keep working hard at it, and then believe in what you're doing, and not letting yourself down."

When Kang two-putted from 30 feet on the final hole at Olympia Fields, not only did she have her first career LPGA win, buta als a major.

"What are the odds that my first win is a major?" Kang said. "I'm pretty sure he (her dad) had something to do with it. It's just incredible. But I know that he was there, because I felt him. I felt him with me every day, and I still do."

 

 

2. Sergio Garcia's winning putt at the Masters

What happened: Garcia had two putts to win the Masters from about 15 feet. He needed just one.

It was a fitting way for Garcia to claim his long-awaited first major championship. It was obvious how much that moment -- one he'd always dreamed about -- meant to him. It permanently removed him from the "best player never to win a major" talk.

Adding to the touching display was the sportsmanship runner-up Justin Rose showed. It was pure class.

 

 

 

1. Jordan Spieth asks, 'what would Arnie do?' at the Masters

What happened: Jordan Spieth hit his tee shot into the pine straw to the right of the par-5 13th fairway during the third round of the Masters. When he got to the ball and assessed the situation, he could be heard on the Masters.com "Amen Corner" coverage asking caddie Michael Greller, "What would Arnie do?"

Greller responded: "Hit it to 20 feet."

In the end, Spieth had to settle for 29 feet after an incredible shot to set up an unlikely eagle try. It was awesome.
