The thought of being struck by a golf ball is frightening... so much so that a fan at East Lake went flying from his chair on Thursday, but did not get hit by the ball.

It's not often you see a shank in golf where there's someone on the hole more embarrassed than the person who actually clanked the hosel rocket.

But, that's what happened at East Lake Golf Club on Thursday in the first round of the Tour Championship.

Jhonattan Vegas selected an iron for his tee shot on the 456-yard, par-4 eighth hole.

His contact wasn't ideal. He stone-cold shanked the thing sending it on a beeline to the right.

Embarrassing? Maybe.

But, nothing compared to the overreaction of this fan:

In the fan's defense, it's frightening when you think a golf ball is going to hit you and you can't see it coming. So, we're not going to give him a hard time for that.

Since he didn't get hit, the video is highly entertaining.
