Suzy Whaley: The U.S. Senior Women's Open an 'incredibly special week'

PGA Vice President Suzy Whaley narrowly missed the cut in the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open, but being part of a group that made history made the week something to never forget.

"It's an incredibly special week," Whaley said after her Friday round. "It means the world to me to be able to compete, to play in something that's a first, and then to have women here who made my career possible, to be on the same lengths with them is tremendous."

Whaley finished 13-over through two rounds at Chicago Golf Club, missing the cut by one shot. Whaley shot 77-82 in the first two rounds. She qualified for the inaugural event by earning one of the five spots in a sectional qualifier at The Olympic Club outside San Francisco. Whaley was one of 120 players to make up the field.

"You know, I think that's hard to say, but certainly this has been an evolution in time, right?" Whaley said. "We've been waiting for this for a very long time, and we thank the USGA for giving us the opportunity and certainly hope we have many more to come."
