Yang charges up leaderboard on moving day

SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- South Korea’s Amy Yang did exactly what she needed to do on ‘moving day’ at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the LPGA Tour’s second major championship of the 2016 season. Yang, who started the day in a tie for 35th, shot a third-round, 5-under 66 to catapult herself into contention. She currently sits in a tie for 4th, just two-strokes back of the leader, Lydia Ko. 

“I had a tough time hitting fairways the last two rounds, especially tight course like this, you miss fairway, hard to save par,” said Yang. “But today I was hitting it more solid and also putt more solid. I had a great day. It's so important to hit fairways.”

Yang, who owns four top-10’s and hasn’t finished worse than a tie for 40th in 10 starts in 2016, is seeking her first LPGA Tour title since the 2015 Honda LPGA Thailand. Her best finish at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship was a tie for 5th in 2013.

She hopes to not get too caught up in the moment, however, but also realizes it’s a major championship she’s trying to win.

“I'm just going to focus on one thing at a time,” said Yang. “Also be patient, that's most important. I get nervous, too, out there. It's a natural thing.”
