Hero World Challenge 2017: How Tiger Woods fared in Round 2

After turning heads with a 3-under 69 on Day 1, Tiger Woods was somehow even more impressive on Day 2 at the Hero World Challenge.

The 79-time PGA Tour winner, 14-time major champion and former world No. 1 backed up Thursday's 69 with a round of 4-under 68, which -- at 7 under -- put him four behind leader Charley Hoffman at the time.

Here's a chronological recap of Tiger's day at Albany, with plenty of fun social media ramblings mixed in:

Much like Thursday, Woods began his day with a perfect tee shot at the first hole that traveled 335 yards.

A nice approach shot left Woods with just a 4-footer for birdie to start the round. He would drop the putt and move to 4 under. Perfect start.

At the 187-yard, par-3 second hole, Tiger asked for the wind to "hit it." The wind listened. The ball found the green -- pin high -- 25 feet from the cup.

Woods took an aggressive run at the birdie and ran the ball 5 feet past the hole, but walked it straight in for the par to remain at 4 under.

On the first par 5 of the day, the 572-yard third hole, Woods smoked a hard draw right down the middle of the fairway.

From 249 yards out, Tiger hit a long iron -- complete with a club twirl -- just short of the green.

Electing to go with putter from just off the green, Tiger ran the eagle try 7 feet past the hole. Woods rolled in the putt for his second birdie in three holes. At 5 under he moved to within one shot of the lead.

With driver in hand at the fourth hole, Tiger again busts it down the pipe. His second shot from 146 yards nearly went in the hole. He tapped in the 4 footer for birdie and a share of the lead at 6 under.

At the par-3 fifth hole, Woods hit a beautiful tee shot, leaving himself a 15-footer for his fourth birdie of the day. Woods lipped out the birdie try and settled for par to remain at 6 under and one of the lead.

On the short, par-4 seventh hole, Woods opted for an iron and didn't hit a great tee shot with the ball sailing left and into the rough. Faced with an extremely difficult second shot, Woods advanced it into a greenside bunker.

From the bunker, Woods splashed out beautifully, knocking the ball to within 3 feet. He would make the par putt to stay at 6 under and one back of the lead.

Over at the par-3 eighth, playing 195 yards, Woods hit a 4-iron. The ball came up short of the green and rolled down into a swale leaving Tiger a difficult chip.

Woods handled the chip with no issues, putting it to within 3 feet of the cup. He made the par to stay at 6 under.

Tiger, once again, smoked another drive into the middle of the fairway -- this one on the par 5 ninth, which would give him a chance to go for the green in two. This is the same hole where Woods made his first bogey on Thursday.

"Talk to me, Joey," Woods said to LaCava after striking his fairway wood. It was perfect. He hit it pin high to about 15 feet and set up an eagle putt.

Here's the shot from 271 yards out:

For the outright lead at 8 under, Woods made the eagle putt and gave a nice fist pump. He goes out in 5-under 31.

Coming off the eagle on No. 9, Woods hit a 3-wood off the tee at No. 10 into the middle of the fairway.

With 163 yards from the fairway, Woods came up short left of the green. He chipped it up to a foot and tapped in for the par to stay at 8 under.

At the 589-yard, par-5 11th, Tiger smashed another drive center cut.

Tiger's second shot at 11 just slipped off the right edge of the green into a swale and he will be pitching back up to the hole. And... he nearly holed it for his second eagle of the day. Instead, he settled for a tap-in birdie to get to 9 under and back into sole possession of the lead.

On the tee at 12 from 193 yards, Woods hit a 7-iron 20 feet left of the flag. Woods blew the first putt 12 feet past the hole and just missed the comebacker on the left edge for his first bogey of the day to drop back to 8 under and into a share of the lead with Hoffman and Fleetwood.

Coming off the bogey on No. 12, Woods crushed a perfect drive on No. 13. He gave himself a chance for birdie, sending the approach shot over the top of the flag to within 20 feet of the hole.

Woods just missed the birdie putt on the right edge and walked off with a par to remain 8 under and one back of Hoffman.

Moments later, Hoffman missed a par putt. Woods was back in a share of the lead at 8 under with Hoffman and Fleetwood.

Tiger hit an iron off the tee and into the fairway at No. 14. His approach shot settled 20 feet from the hole and he missed the putt on the low side, settling for another par and remained at 8 under.

With a driver on the 548-yard, par-5 15th, Woods smashed it, again finding the middle of the fairway. This is the same hole where he needed to take a penalty for an unplayable lie after his tee shot sailed right into the junk.

Woods came up just short of the green with a 4 iron and faced a straightaway eagle chip from about 45 feet.

Using putter from off the green, Woods zipped his eagle putt 15 feet past the hole leaving himself a lot of work for birdie.

The birdie putt was also hit firm and went 5 feet past the hole. He made the par to remain at 8 under.

Tiger played the par 5s in 1 over on Thursday and played them in 4 under on Friday.

Tiger's driver on the 16th tee fanned out to the right and we was left to play his second shot on the par 4 from the waste area.

From 136 yards with a wedge, Woods caught the ball cleanly with his approach and hit the ball to the back side of the green, leaving about 30 feet for birdie.

The birdie try died on the lip of the cup and Tiger fell to his knees. He wanted that one. But it's a par and he remains at 8 under and in a tie for the lead.

At the 190-yard, par-3 17th, Tiger hit a 6-iron that found the front, right side of the green. That would leave him a rollercoaster of a birdie try.

Given the shape of the green and how Woods would need to putt through some fringe, he elected to instead use a 60-degree wedge from the green. And what an incredible play it was. Tiger got it to within 3 feet of the hole and picked off his par to stay at 8 under. That put him one behind co-leaders Hoffman and Jordan Spieth.

On his final tee shot of the day, Woods laced his driver at the 18th but it never turned over and settled into the waste area with an awful lie in a footprint. Woods just punched out back into the fairway, which was really his only option.

Left with 118 yards for his third, Woods pulled a sand wedge and came up just short of the green onto the fringe.

Tiger left it short and tapped in for his second bogey of the day to finish with a 4-under 68 and at 7 under total.
