He shot 69-63-66-66. ... HSBC has extended its sponsorship deal five years with the tournament that began in 2005 and was given WGC status in 2009. ... The event is the second of four events in the European Tour's Finals Series. The European Tour will remain in Shanghai next week for the BMW Masters at Lake Malaren. ... Last week: Duffy Waldorf won the Toshiba Classic in Newport Beach, California, for his first senior title. He shot 67-60-66 for a tournament-record 20-under 193 total and a two-stroke victory.
 
Notes: The top 30 on the money list qualified for the season-ending tournament. ... Colin Montgomerie leads the three-man season race for the Charles Schwab Cup, 39 points ahead of Jeff Maggert and 66 in front of Bernhard Langer. Players will receive a point for every $500 earned. The Cup winner will receive a $1 million annuity, the runner-up a $500,000 annuity, and the third-place finisher a $300,000 annuity. Langer won season titles in 2010 and 2014. Maggert has a tour-high four victories, winning majors in the Regions Tradition and U.S. Senior Open. He leads the money list with $2,188,836, followed by Langer ($2,086,288) and Montgomerie ($2,017,619).

Notes: Third-ranked Stacy Lewis and No. 4 Lexi Thompson are in the field. Lewis won the 2012 tournament, overcoming a seven-stroke deficit in the final round. She birdied the last three holes for a 64 and a one-shot victory, and tied for second last week in China. Thompson won three weeks ago in South Korea for her second victory of the year. ... Annika Sorenstam swept the 2001-05 titles to become the first LPGA Tour player to win an event five straight times. ... The tournament ends the LPGA Tour's five-event Asian Swing. ... The Lorena Ochoa Invitational is next week in Mexico, followed by the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples, Florida.
