Zac Oakley (65) leads Event No. 6 of PGA Tournament Series Presented By Golf Advisor

PORT ST. LUCIE (Dec. 18, 2017) -- Zac Oakley eagled the 17th hole Monday to shoot 7-under 65 and lead Event No. 6 of the PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club.

The part-time Stuart resident moved past Matt Borchert (66) with his late eagle on the Ryder Course. Oakley won Event. No. 2 earlier this month and is sixth on the money list ($6,972).

“I’m hitting it the same – which is good – but the putter has been cold for a while,” said Oakley, who caddies at Seminole Golf Club during the winter. “I felt a little rhythm early in the round and I was able to keep it going.”

Leading money winner Danny Balin birdied his final two holes to tie Borchert for second place with a 66. Balin ($9,555) leads the money list. Oakley likely needs to win to catch Balin.

“It’s not so much the money title, I just like to give myself chances to win golf tournaments,” Oakley said.

Borchert opened with a bogey, but hit his final 17 greens. Borchert, the PGA Director of Instruction at Isleworth Country Club near Orlando, qualified for his first U.S. Open last year at 39.

“It would be a big accomplishment (if he were to win),” said Borchert. “I’ve played well in sectional stuff, but I haven’t won anything in a while. Everybody likes to win.”

Bob Sowards, who won Event No. 4 for his eighth career title in the PGA Tournament Series, birdied five of his first 10 holes and finished with eight pars for a 67.

Tied for fifth place with 68s were Anthony Aruta of Staten Island, N.Y., Greg Sonnier of Lake Charles, La., Joshua Rackley of Wilmington, N.C. and Todd Larson of Greenwich, Ct.

Omar Uresti, who has already clinched PGA Professional Player of the Year, is tied for 22nd at 1-under 71.
