How to Create the Perfect Foursome When You Are New to Golf

As an expert in golf for business, the #1 question I get asked is, who should I play with?

I will tell you that regardless of whether you are new or old to this game, the answer is the same. You should play with someone who is;

Patient - they know you may be a little slow, but they are ok with it. The patient golfer is excited that you are getting into the game, and may even give you a few pointers during the round.

Ethical - how they play the game of golf is how they play the game of life. If someone is willing to cheat in golf (the only sport you play against yourself), what lengths do you think they will go to succeed in business? This may be where the newbie can shine the most, because the more you try to stick to the rules and practice good etiquette, the more you will be respected on and off the course!

A Like Minded Business Person - Playing with a colleague or a client is a great idea if you are looking to build better business relationships. You may as well take advantage of the four hours on the course and close a few deals or even make a new friend at work.

Has a Sense of Humor - If you are like me and have ever whiffed the ball, you need a playing partner who can have a good belly laugh. Humor is the best thing to balance out a less than perfect swing or round! Next time you are on the course and you chunk up a little dirt, tell the group that you “hit the big ball first.” You are bound to get a chuckle out of someone!

Now go find three people who fit these criteria and set up your tee time. I bet you a quarter a hole that you’ll have a great time!
