Little Rippers - Sunday 9 AM
Class overview
Little Rippers is designed to get kids introduced into golf.
We will go over how to hold the club, how to swing, what each club is called, rules & etiquette, etc. but the main focus will be on games, building good overall athletes, and allowing the kids to have fun. We want kids to learn to love golf!
Where will class be held?
All classes will be held at Settler's Hill Golf Club
In the winter, classes will be held indoors in the club house
In the spring or if we get a nice day, class will be held at the outdoor driving range or on the Playground Short Course at Settler's Hill
Whose the class for?
This class is for both boys & girls
Students should be between the ages of 5-7 for this class.
There will be no more than 8 students per class during the winter and no more than 16 students in the summer.
For every class over 8 students, we will have a second instructor help
Make up classes / what if we miss?
There will be no make up classes offered at the end of the month. Instead, if you cannot make it, contact Coach Ben and you can attend another Little Rippers class at a different time that week
Inclement Weather - This class is taught indoors so weather should not be an issue. However, if the coach is sick, roads are impassible, or the course is closed for whatever reason, the class will either be postponed until the next week or a make-up class will be added on a weekend day.
Extra Details
Equipment is not required, however US Kids clubs can be purchased through Coach Ben
Each class will need at least 3 students to begin
Weekly Class details
The class is fast paced and broken up into at least 4 segments from each class.
Obstacle course
We will almost always start with an "obstacle course" where the kids will do things like lunges, running backwards, karaoke, crab walks, balance beam, bear crawls, and more. This portion is designed to allow the kids to expend some of their extra energy and get them excited for class while also developing better overall movements skills as athletes.
Rules & etiquette
Each week we'll cover things like how to write down your score, what a birdie and bogey are, where the fairway is, what's the proper name of the sand, where to drive a golf cart, how to stay safe and where to stand while others are hitting. We'll do that through a few games like the golf hole board game, guess the word, play a simulated hole, and more.
Putting
There are numerous activities where focus on putting. Mostly we'll play games focusing on their speed control and aim. This is also a great way to get teams involved and competitive juices flowing. In addition to games, we'll have segments of focused instruction on things like reading the greens, break, how to aim, and how to move the club.
Full swing
Each week we'll also give the kids a chance to work on their full swings. We'll never get to in the weeds on swing mechanics and details at this age but we will go over things like how to grip the club, ball position, the proper set up, how to get the club over your head, and how to turn your body and swing through. There is a special emphasis on safety with the full swing, as well.
Many classes are themed with a goal or a problem that the group needs to solve by playing our games! The best students may even be rewarded at the end of each class!
