Florida’s Zack Shriver Wins Event #2 in PGA Tournament Series

Sometimes, all it takes is watching a putt go in the hole to kick-start a round.
That’s what happened to Jupiter’s Zack Shriver on Friday. Shriver started the final round in Event No. 2 of the PGA Tournament Series three shots behind leader Craig Bowden, and bogeyed the second hole to fall four back.
Then Shriver made a birdie putt. And another one. And another one. And … well, you get the picture.
Shriver made five consecutive birdies on the Dye Course at PGA Golf Club to shoot 4-under 68 and earn a one-stroke victory. The 36-year-old finished at 6-under 138, a shot ahead of Jake Scott (67) of Strongsville Ohio, and David Abolt (71) of Cuba, Missouri.
“I’ve been hitting it good, but hadn’t been making any putts,” said Shriver, a PGA Assistant Professional at North Palm Beach Country Club. “I hit a great putt on No. 2 that didn’t go in, but I made a putt on the next hole and made a putt on the next hole.
“After the five straight birdies, I had to reset a little and not think about winning because this course is a pain. There’s trouble on every hole.”
Shriver encountered a problem on the par-4 18th when his drive landed in a bush. He was able to hack it out into a greenside bunker and got up and down from 20 yards, making a 4-foot putt.
It was Shriver’s second PGA Tournament series victory; he won Event No. 4 last year. He earned $5,000.

“It’s always fun to win and validate that victory,” Shriver said. “It wasn’t the best ball-striking round, but I had some good up-and-downs. I’m thankful for Allan (Bowman, North Palm Beach’s Director of Golf) to give me this opportunity to play. It’s great to represent the club with a win.”
Scott won Event No. 1 on Tuesday and he almost made it two consecutive titles, but a costly bogey on the par-5 17th hole derailed his chances. Abolt birdied the 17th to move within a shot of Shriver, but parred the final hole.
Dylan Newman, who’s attempting to win the money title for the third consecutive year, had a 68 and the New Rochelle, N.Y., native tied for fourth at 4-under 140 with Tyler Collet (69) of Vero Beach, Florida, Alex Beach (70) of Stamford, Connecticut, Brett Melton of Palm City, Florida, and Bowden (73) of Bloomington, Indiana.
