Rory McIlroy is bringing is own style of "NASTY" to Car-nasty at The Open Championship.
Nike's new golf shoe, the Tour Premiere PE "Car-Nasty," features "NASTY" in red on the outsole of the shoe. That is in homage to the nickname of Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland, as the course exposes players to winds and has a narrow layout.
The shoe design also features at tartan print, reflecting the pattern's Scotland origins.
On Thursday, McIlroy showed off the new shoe in his first round of the tournament.
According to Kevin Cunningham of Golf.com, Nike is releasing a limited quantity of the "NASTY" shoes. Thursday, July 19, marked the first day of availability, coinciding with the first round of the 147th Open Championship.
As for McIlroy, he's going for his second Open Championship victory. He previously won it in 2014. McIlroy has experience at Carnoustie, which is hosting The Open for the eighth time this year. In 2007, McIlroy won The Silver Medal as the top amateur.
