Adam Hadwin becomes eighth player to join 59 club

History continues to be made during this young 2017 golf season.

Just nine days after Justin Thomas became the seventh person to ever card a 59 on the PGA Tour, Canadian Adam Hadwin is the eighth player in history to join the 59 club. He is the first player without a previous PGA Tour win to card a 59.

Playing today's round of the CareerBuilder Challenge on the La Quinta course at PGA West, Hadwin opened with a par and then birdied the next six holes before finishing the front nine with a par and a seventh birdie to card a 29 going out.

On the back nine, the 29-year-old from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan again opened with a par and then proceeded to make birdie on the next five holes. After a par on the par-3 16th hole, Hadwin made his record-tying 13th birdie on the par-4 17th hole. He joins Chip Beck as holder of the PGA Tour's all-time single-round birdie record. Beck set that record during his famous round of 59 at the third round of the 1991 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.

Hadwin finished his round with an up-and-down par on the 18th hole to secure his place in history.

In addition to joining the 59 club, Hadwin jumped to the top of the leaderboard and will take a 1-stroke lead into Sunday's final round.

Here are the final few approach shots and putts of his round:
