A Quick Nine: Best golf courses in Kentucky

The sporting world will be focused in on Louisville, Ky., this Saturday for the Run for the Roses -- the 138th Kentucky Derby. It's billed as the most exciting two minutes in sports... so, if you're actually there for the race -- and it's only two minutes -- what will you do with the rest of your time? Heck, you can only consume so many Mint Juleps, right?

Why not play some golf?

With the Kentucky Derby in mind, we reached out to our Facebook friends in the Bluegrass State and those who have played lots of golf there and asked: What are the best non-private courses in Kentucky?

Here are the answers you gave us... Hopefully your offerings will mean last-minute tee times for our other friends out there!

9. Seneca Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. originally opened for play in 1934, Seneca's picturesque course has been recognized as the best choice for public golf in Louisville.

8. Wasioto Winds Golf Course in Pineville, Ky. Not far from the Tennessee border, Wasioto Winds plays to 7,037 yards from the longest tees for a par of 72.

7. The Bull at Boone's Trace in Richmond, Ky. Aside from the cool name, The Bull is described on its website as, "one of the finest public clubs throughout Central Kentucky, offering its members and the public a challenging course, fun atmosphere, and exceptional service. Come see why The Bull was voted 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest's 'Best Places to Play' and is the most affordable golf for the quality of the course."

6. Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course in Franklin, Ky. Owned and operated by PGA Tour and Champions Tour star Kenny Perry, you can enjoy 18 holes with a cart at Country Creek for as little as $30.

5. Quail Chase Golf Club in Louisville, Ky. The beautiful Quail Chase provides 27 holes of golf and tabs itself as, "Country Club golf for the public golfer."

4. Dale Hollow Lake Golf Course in Burkesville, Ky. Golf Digest has rated Dale Hollow as the eighth best course in the state of Kentucky. Most holes have moderate to severe elevation changes.

3. Heritage Hill in Shepherdsville, Ky. Opened in 2007, Heritage Hill is a par 72 that plays 7,112 yards from the longest tees.

2. Charlie Vettiner Golf Course in Louisville, Ky. Charlie Vettiner Golf Course is an 18-hole public golf course and is one of nine public golf courses managed by Louisville's MetroParks Department.
