Czech Republic’s Klára Spilková accepts sponsor exemption to 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (April 25, 2017) – Klára Spilková, the first-ever Czech Republic golfer to win a professional golf event, has accepted a special exemption to compete in the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, June 29 – July 2, at Olympia Fields (Illinois) Country Club.

Spilková, 22, who represented the Czech Republic in the 2016 Olympic Games, will be making her second consecutive appearance in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship after receiving an exemption last year. Spilková captured the Lalla Meryem Cup on April 16, in Morocco, edging out two-time major champion Suzann Pettersen by one stroke. Following this win, Spilková currently sits atop the Ladies European Tour’s Order of Merit and is in 10th place on the European Solheim Cup Qualification Ranking.

She joins an elite field that includes defending champion Brooke Henderson, World No. 1 Lydia Ko and Americans Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr and Stacy Lewis.

The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship — a collaboration between the PGA of America, KPMG and the LPGA Tour — continues the rich tradition of the LPGA Championship. Broadcast in partnership with NBC and Golf Channel, the Championship offers a purse among the highest in women’s golf. The event combines an annual major golf championship with the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit and the KPMG Future Leaders Program – all focused on the development, advancement, and empowerment of women on and off the golf course.

Golf Channel will televise live the first two rounds of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. ET. NBC coverage of the final two rounds is Saturday, July 1, from 3:00-6:00 ET and Sunday, July 2, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. ET.
