Elite field of 156 players set for 38th Junior PGA Championship

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- A field of 156 players – 78 boys and 78 girls – will descend on Trump National Golf Club – Washington, D.C., in Potomac Falls, Va., for the 38th Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Hotel Fitness.

The elite field of players from across the United States as well as China, France, Singapore and South Korea includes all 2013 PGA Junior Series event champions, 41 PGA Section winners, many of Polo Golf and Golfweek's top-ranked players, and selected national junior tournament winners.

The Championship will be making its first stop in the state of Virginia, July 30 – Aug. 2, after three successful years at Sycamore Hills Golf Course in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The field is highlighted in 2013 by Casie Cathrea of Livermore, Calif., who was the low amateur in the 2013 U.S. Women's Open.

The Oklahoma State University commit will be making her fourth appearance in the Junior PGA Championship. Her best finish in the Championship was a tie for fifth in 2011.

Cathrea also helped lead the 2012 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup Team to victory last September at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club, going undefeated in her three matches.

Joining Cathrea will be three other members of the winning 2012 U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team – Cameron Champ of Sacramento, Calif., Scottie Scheffler of Dallas, Texas and Samantha Wagner of Windermere, Fla.

Both Wagner and Champ finished second in girls' and boys' divisions, respectively, at the 2012 Junior PGA Championship, while Scheffler finished 15th.

Three other 2013 U.S. Women's Open participants are also scheduled to compete in the Junior PGA Championship and include: Shannon Aubert of France, Mariel Galdiano of Pearl City, Hawaii and Erica Herr of New Hope, Pa.

In addition to Champ, two other top-5 finishers from the 2012 Junior PGA Championship boys' division are scheduled to play – Brad Dalke of McKinney, Texas and Rylee Reinertson, Gibbon, Neb. The pair finished in a tie for 4th overall.

This year's 72-hole Championship will feature a 54-hole cut to the low 30 boys and 30 girls, including ties.

Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, who has claimed the last two Junior PGA Championship girls' division titles, and Robby Shelton of Wilmer, Ala., the 2012 boys' division champion, will not compete in 2013. Jutanugarn has turned professional and already has five top-4 finishes on the LPGA Tour in 2013, while Shelton will be attending the University of Alabama in the fall.
