Notes: Hanefeld's Senior PGA Championship streak in jeopardy
SEASIDE, Calif. -- At 5-over, 149, Kirk Hanefeld of Acton, Massachusetts missed the cut this week at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship. Hanefeld won this Championship twice, in 2008 and ’11. By missing the cut today, however, his string of 10 consecutive entries in the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid is in jeopardy.
In regards to next May’s 77th Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, other streaks of note to keep an eye on this weekend are held by Sonny Skinner of Sylvester, Georgia (five straight), Lee Rinker of Jupiter, Florida (five straight) and co-leader James Mason of Dillard, Georgia (four straight).
PAST CHAMPIONS MAKING THE CUT: Four the 10 past champions entered in the Senior PGA Professional National Championship will play on this weekend at Bayonet Black Horse. Gene Fieger of Naples, Florida leads the pack of past champions at 5-under par, 139. Fieger, who won this event in 2013, is tied for fourth place.
Fieger will be joined on Bayonet for the weekend by 2002 and ’05 Champion Mike San Filippo of Hobe Sound, Florida (2-under, 142), 2003 Champion Jeff Thomsen of Boise, Idaho (even, 144), and 2012 Champion Jim Woodward of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (1-over, 145).
BAYONET vs. BLACK HORSE: After today’s cut, the final two rounds will be played on Bayonet. Below are the scoring averages and number of sub-par rounds for both Bayonet and Black Horse, broken down by first- and second-round play:
