Greg Bisconti looks for title in eighth start in PGA Assistant Championship

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Greg Bisconti thinks often about the day in August 2009 when he stood with PGA Champion Y.E. Yang on the 18th green at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. While Yang hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy after a historic victory over Tiger Woods, Bisconti lifted a piece of crystal.

Bisconti, PGA assistant professional at The St. Andrew's Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., earned Low PGA Club Professional honors that year, sharing some of the spotlight and enjoying one of the proudest moments in his golf career.

Bisconti, who turned 41 on Sunday, was making his third PGA Championship appearance, and first since 2007. It was the first time that he had made a 36-hole cut in the PGA Championship.

"That accomplishment serves as a reminder that I did something really good on the golf course and I can do it again," said Bisconti. "I think about it frequently during tournaments when I may not be playing well or just need a pick-me-up."

This week, Bisconti will make his eighth appearance in the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship on a course with which he is familiar – PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

The layout hosts the Championship for the 18th consecutive year. Bisconti's best finish in the Championship was a share of fifth in 2000.

"I know the Wanamaker Course very well and I'm really comfortable playing there," said Bisconti. "The course puts a premium on shot-making and accuracy off the tee. It will be fun to see how well I can play."

The winner of the 2013 PGA Assistant Championship will collect $9,000 of a $100,000 purse.

Following the first 36 holes of play in the PGA Assistant Championship, the field for the final two rounds will be reduced to the low 70 scorers and ties.

At stake is a spot in the 47th PGA Professional National Championship, June 22-25, 2014, in Myrtle Beach, S.C., at The Dunes Club and the Grande Dunes Resort Course. The Dunes Club will host the final two Championship rounds exclusively after the field is trimmed to the lowest 70 scorers and ties.
