Holes in one on No. 16 at TPC Scottsdale in the Waste Management Phoenix Open

During the week of the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale, the par-3 16th hole is the most electrifying hole in all of golf. 

 

The 163-yard hole is pretty straight forward and Tour players will tell you that outside of tournament week, it's a piece of cake par 3.

 

But tournament week is a different animal. The hole is completely enclosed by bleachers, has a Colosseum vibe and crazed — usually inebriated — fans. It's like nothing else in golf.

Fans have fact sheets on all the players in the field complete with embarrassing nicknames and use it as fuel when the player arrives at the tee. 

 

Hit a great shot and the crowd will love you. Hit anything outside of 5 feet? You'll receive 160 yards of their (mostly good-natured) wrath.

 

Since 1987, TPC Scottsdale has been the home of the Phoenix stop on Tour. And over the course of the last three decades, the par-3 16th has seen nine holes in one.

 

The most famous of those aces? Hands down, that honor belongs to Tiger Woods, who took the house down and raised the roof in 1997, which you'll see below.

2011: Jarrod Lyle, 16th hole, 8 iron, 150 yards.

 

2002: Mike Sposa, 16th hole, 7-iron.

 

1997: Steve Stricker, 16th hole, 6-iron.

 

1997: Tiger Woods, 16th hole, 9-iron.

 

1991: Jay Delsing, 16th hole, 9-iron.

 

1990: Brad Bryant, 16th hole.

 

1990: David Edwards, 16th hole.

 

1988: Hal Sutton, 16th hole.
