A new year has brought new equipment for two of the top players in golf. On Saturday, it was reported that Rory McIlroy will move away from his Nike equipment beginning this month. Sunday brought the not-as-surprising news that world No. 1 Jason Day will be joining the Nike Golf team.
According to a press release from Nike Golf, they have signed Day to a multi-year contract that covers footwear, apparel, headwear and gloves. He will debut his new look this week at the Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii.
“Joining Nike is a dream come true,” Day said through the press release. “The brand is synonymous with the world’s best athletes. I’m honored and can’t wait to be part of the team and working closely with Nike to take my game, and the sport of golf, to even higher levels.”
The announcement was made Sunday through a video released by Nike, as well as an Instagram post by Day.
On Monday, Nike's most well-known golfer, Tiger Woods, sent his congratuations to Day on joining the Nike Golf team.
