Anderson and Vucinich lead divisions of PGA Senior Stroke Play Cham'ship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – JC Anderson of O’Fallon, Missouri, shot 64 at PGA Golf Club to take a four-shot lead after the opening round of the 59-and-Under Division in the PGA Senior Stroke Play Championship presented by Premier Golf and GOLF ADVISOR.

In the 60-and-Over Division, Roy Vucinich of Moon Township, Pennsylvania, propelled a bogey-free, 6-under-par 66 into a one-shot lead over seven other PGA members.

Anderson scrambled for a par out of the trees on the second hole of the Ryder Course and then proceeded to birdie seven of the next 10 holes. He would finish at 8-under par, with eight birdies and no bogeys.

“I had a clean, fresh mind, and it was a pretty clean round,” said Anderson, 53, who competed in the 2013 PGA Championship and Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid.

Mike Lawrence of Anderson, South Carolina, and Larry Emery of Port St. Lucie, each shot 68 and are tied for second.

Vucinich, 67, is a former Champions Tour player who has competed in the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, Senior PGA Championship, U.S. Senior Open and the Senior British Open. “I hit the ball consistently off the tee, and I hit the ball in play,” he said.  “I only missed two greens, and those were on the apron. I made some nice putts and overall played pretty well.”

The 31st PGA Senior Stroke Play Championship presented by Premier Golf and GOLF ADVISOR is the second of six PGA Winter Championships conducted at PGA Golf Club during January and February. The second round will be played Wednesday and the final round on Thursday.
