PGA's Maulana Dotch inducted into Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame

DALLAS, Texas – Northern Texas PGA Member and PGA Director of Instruction at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Dallas Maulana Dotch was inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame (TBSHOF) on Saturday, February 7.
Along with 10 other inductees including Joe Greene, Greg Ellis and Mark Aguirre, Dotch was honored into the TBSHOF at a ceremony held at the Crystal Terrace Dallas Music Hall for the 19th induction class.
Dotch, a native of Irving, starting playing golf at the age of 11. She played on the boy’s team at Irving High School, and then earned a full golf scholarship to Bethune-Cookman University in Florida. Dotch is the first black woman in Texas and the second black woman in America to earn her Class-A membership in The PGA of America. The PGA of America has a professional membership of 28,000 and is the largest working sports organization in the world.
“Maulana is a shining star for our association. She is very committed to growing the game and has a passion for introducing the game to juniors,” said Mark Harrison, Executive Director of the Northern Texas PGA. “She recently started the First Annual Maulana Dotch Ladies Pro-Am at Cedar Crest. Funds raised are used to offset the cost to introduce others to the game. She’s doing great things for the game and her future is very bright.”
About The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame
The Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame housed at the African American Museum, was established to chronicle the sports history contributions made by African Americans. It was established in 1996 to honor coaches and athletes of high character and athletic achievement, who are either Texans by birth or by athletic participation (collegiate or professional), and who have made recognizable contributions to African American culture and/or history. The general public submits the nominees, and a panel of judges (including sports/media journalist) makes the final selection.
About the Northern Texas PGA
The Northern Texas PGA is one of 41 Sections that comprise the PGA of America and has a professional membership of over 840. The geographic territory includes the State of Texas north of the 31st latitude, or just north of Austin. The Dallas based office has a full time staff of 12 employees with an additional 60 employees serving in a part-time capacity. The Section is a not for profit organization governed by an elected board of directors, who are PGA golf professionals. The operational focus of the Section is to provide services to golf professionals and the golf industry, while encouraging interest in and promoting the game.
