USGA to play 2019 US Women's Open in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The U.S. Women's Open is coming to the Country Club of Charleston in 2019.

The United States Golf Association picked the Seth Raynor layout to hold its premier women's championship from May 30-June 2 of that year.

The USGA held the U.S. Women's Amateur at the course in 2013, Emma Talley taking a 2-and-1 victory over Yueer Cindy Feng.

The club opened in 1925. John LaFoy made revisions in 1990-91 following Hurricane Hugo. There were additional revisions to the course by Brian Silva in 2007.

USGA vice president and championship committee chairman Diana Murphy said the amateur competition here worked so well, the organization wanted to come back the U.S. Women's Open.

The city previously hosted the PGA Championship in 2012. It will do so again in 2021.
