KPMG Women's PGA Championship ticket sales ahead of 2015 pace

SAMMAMISH, Wash. -- The KPMG Women's PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club is less than four months away, and tournament organizers say everything is going well, from tickets sales to volunteer sign-ups.

Ticket sales are well ahead of the pace set last year when the event was held at Westchester Country Club in New York, according to Bob Jeffrey of The PGA of America, who was the tournament director at Westchester and is helping oversee this year's event.

Sean Riley is the tournament director at Sahalee, which will be held June 9-12. Riley, who was an intern at Sahalee in 2008, said about 1,100 volunteers have signed up, but there are still limited opportunities available, with a particular emphasis on hole marshals.

This will be the third major championship Sahalee has hosted. It held the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2010 U.S. Senior Open.

Despite some recent rain, Sahalee looked Wednesday like it could host the tournament this week.

"Sahalee is always in championship condition," Riley said. "It won't need much modification at all."

Kerry Haigh,Chief Championships Officer of The PGA of America, will oversee course setup for the event. It will be a busy year for Haigh, who will also be in charge of course setup for the PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup.

Haigh is well acquainted with Sahalee, having been in charge of course setup for the 1998 PGA Championship.

The big story line for this year's event will be Inbee Park, who is seeking her fourth consecutive title in the Women's PGA Championship. Last year, 99 of the world's top 100 ranked players competed in the event.
