PORT ST. LUCIE (Dec. 11, 2017) -- Reigning PGA Professional Champion Omar Uresti’s finishes keep trending in the correct direction.
He has finished tied for 18th, fifth and fourth in the first three events of the PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club.
So it was no surprise to see his name atop the leaderboard after Monday’s first round of Event No. 4. Uresti shot a 4-under 68 on the Ryder Course and is tied for the lead with 2016 PGA Professional Player of the Year Rich Berberian, Jeff Sorenson and Danny Lewis.

Uresti has the experience of having played 359 events and 14 top-10s on the PGA Tour, but he still has to produce in Tuesday’s final round.
“It’s been a good feeling to stay up there with the guys, but I know there’s no letting up,” Uresti said. “I expect to play well not necessarily win. Fortunately, my scores have gotten better each time.”
Berberian has also contended in the PGA Tournament Series, finishing tied for second, 27th and fourth in his three starts. The Hooksett, N.H., native had five birdies and a bogey.
Sorenson led after the first round of last week’s Event No. 3, but shot 76 and tied for sixth place. Lewis, a PGA Apprentice at Elk’s Run near Cincinnati, relied on ball-striking during his 68.
“I only missed three greens,” Lewis said. “I hit the driver good and kept the ball in play.”
Eight players are one shot back: Rod Perry, Jim Schuman, Kyle Dobbs, Ben Cook, Brian Norman, Todd Larson and Shaun Powers.
