The seventh annual Patriot Golf Day takes place Aug. 30-Sept. 2 at golf facilities nationwide. It is the flagship fundraiser for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides postsecondary educational scholarships for the children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving our great nation.

On Labor Day weekend, golfers across the country are asked to add an extra dollar to their greens fees to fund Folds of Honor scholarships. Although our national promotion for Patriot Golf Day is and will always be Labor Day weekend, anyone can raise funds or collect donations for PGD at any time of the year. The Patriot Golf Day campaign is jointly supported by The PGA of America and the United States Golf Association.

Patriot Golf Day was started by Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation as well as an F-16 pilot, PGA Professional and USGA member. On Labor Day 2007, Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees. His request resulted in donations of more than $1.1 million from more than 3,200 golf facilities. Over the next six years, golfers nationwide were instrumental in raising more than $17 million through Patriot Golf Day events, resulting in more than 3,500 scholarship recipients in all 50 states and 41 PGA Sections.

''We have lost so many soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice,'' said Rooney, who served three tours in Iraq. ''America can come together in the spirit of golf and have a dramatic impact. We have an opportunity to make a difference for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.''

Rooney and former President George W. Bush will kick off Patriot Golf Day by appearing on "Fox & Friends" Friday morning.
