The PGA of America has announced that it will team with select Boys & Girls Clubs across the country to pilot a PGA Medalist Program, introducing young people to golf.
The Boys & Girls Club pilots located in Atlanta, Louisville, Ky. and South Florida will begin offering classes throughout November.
Each Boys & Girls & Club pilot will host a total of five PGA Medalist classes with PGA Professional instruction targeting youth, ages 9 to 14. All classes will be held at the local Boys & Girls Club, with the PGA Professional, including a field trip to a local golf course for the fifth and final session of the program.
"The PGA is excited to partner with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to offer this exciting program, which will help introduce youth to the game of golf," said PGA of America President Jim Remy. "Our PGA Professionals will be providing the future of our great game with expert instruction."
The PGA Medalist program is a collaborative framework based on research and best practices from PGA Professionals, allied associations and the long term player development standards for juniors adopted by the PGA World Alliance. The PGA Medalist programâs main focus is on developing core golfers that will have pathways to continue to play golf socially or competitively based on each individualâs interest.
Members at the Boys & Girls Clubs will learn and develop skills for sportsmanship, rules, etiquette, physical, golf and playing golf to help them enjoy the sport of golf for a lifetime. Each Club member will also be able to track their progress in the program with golf and physical skill assessments.
"We are thrilled to begin this pilot project with The PGA of America," said Cyndi Court, executive vice president, Resource Development and Marketing for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "The game of golf can provide young people with great skills and values that will benefit them for the rest of their lives."
