The Players is held annually on the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponde Vedra Beach, Florida. The course was designed by Pete and Alice Dye and opened for play in 1980.
The course was purchased from Paul and Jerome Fletcher by the PGA Tour for $1 — the check still being displayed in the clubhouse.
Outside of The Players, 1994 U.S. Amateur was held on the Stadium Course where Tiger Woods claimed the first of his three consecutive titles.
The signature hole is the No. 17 Island Green. While only 137 yards from tee to green, it’s estimated that over 100,000 golf balls are pulled out of the surrounding pond each year from professionals and tourists playing the course.
