Rory McIlroy sank a 55-foot eagle putt on the 14th hole at The Open Championship at Carnoustie to improve to 6-under and climb the leaderboard. McIlroy started the day tied for sixth at 5-under and four strokes behind the leaders but his 1-under round allowed him to improve four spots to a four-way tie for second.
He finished two strokes behind winner Francesco Molinari, who won at 8-under.
McIlroy birdied the 14th hole in each of the first three rounds but his long putt on Sunday gave him his first eagle at The 147th Open Championship.
