South Carolina's Hidden Gems - Hole No. 11: The 18th Hole at The Patriot Golf Club

What a great honor to be a part of PGA.com's Hidden Gems of South Carolina. There are some great courses and great golf holes on this list, we're excited to be included.

That said, I don't think you could have a list of South Carolina's best without having our closing hole, the par 5 18th here at The Patriot Golf Club, as a part of that group. It is definitely beautiful, challenging and memorable.

Our 18th is a risk/reward par 5 that measures 554 yards from the Championship Tees. A good tee shot will give the longer hitters a chance to reach the green in two, but three good shots make this hole a birdie opportunity for anyone. Then again, one bad shot brings bogey, double and a whole lot worse into play.

Those going for the green in two should be aware of the deep ravine that will penalize those who come up short. However, laying up is no 'gimme' either as their are bunkers that split the fairway, forcing players to choose one of two landing areas for solid approaches.

But even more than just the layout of the hole, the scenerey surrounding it is what makes it special. A large-scale replica of an earthen fort is a hallmark of our course and our 18th green is situated in the center of the walls. The two-tiered green also means that finding the putting surface is no assurance of a two-putt.

Still, there's a reason that in 2004, we were named South Carolina Magazine's "Best New Course in South Carolina." Writers and reviewers have referred to us as "must play", "impressive" and "elite." But we'd like to hear from the most important critic - you. Come visit and get one of the most unique and special experiences in golf. We think you'll agree that this "Hidden Gem" won't stay hidden too long.
