PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (Dec. 7, 2015) – Matt Dobyns and Marshall Talkington are the only two players to finish in the top five in both PGA Tournament Series events so far.

While Dobyns used Friday’s victory to clinch OMEGA PGA Professional Player of the Year Award, Talkington is still trying to win his first PGA Professional Series title.

Talkington will have another chance Tuesday after he shot a 6-under 66 Monday on the Dye Course to share the first-round lead in Event No. 3 of the PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club. He is tied with Anthony Aruta of Staten Island and Michael Meisenzahl of Medford, N.J.

“Those finishes helped me a lot,” Talkington, a PGA Assistant Professional at Jackson National (Tenn.) Golf Club. “You feel more comfortable and it gives you confirmation in your game, being able to trust it.”

Talkington made six birdies and his longest par putt was 4 feet. Meisenzahl, from Medford, N.J., matched the bogey-free round, but he eagled the par-5 fourth hole from 19 feet and was four-under on the par 5s.

“I had opportunities to make more birdies than I did, but what I was most proud of was my misses and mistakes were kept at a minimum,” Meisenzahl said.

Aruta chipped in for eagle at the sixth hole. His lone bogey came at No. 8, but he followed that by hitting a 7-iron to a foot at his closing hole for a birdie.

“That was very important,” said Aruta, a PGA Assistant Professional at North Shore Country Club.

Bob Sowards, a four-time PGA Professional Player of the Year winner, is tied for fourth at 67 with Kyle Higgins, Patrick Rada, Ryan Kalista and Yong Joo. Dobyns (71) is tied for  31st.
