Rochester, NY — Greater Rochester Enterprise — an economic development organization focused on promoting the Greater Rochester, NY region as a competitive place for business location and growth — is projecting the 2019 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club will have a $44.5 million economic impact on the region when the event takes place from May 21-26. 

“There’s a reason the Greater Rochester, NY region is the chosen market to host some of golf’s most prestigious sporting events like the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship,” said Matt Hurlbutt, president and CEO of Greater Rochester Enterprise. “The KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship will shine a spotlight on all of the businesses and entrepreneurs in Rochester that make our region the top place for talent, collaboration and economic success. Day in and day out, Greater Rochester is filled with champions of business, and during Championship Week, champions of golf will get a taste of our great city, too.”

The economic impact study published by GRE also predicts more than 350 jobs in service and tourism will be created to support the Championship. According to GRE, the industries slated to receive the biggest boost from the Championship are hotels and motels, commercial sports, restaurants and bars, transportation, maintenance and repair construction firms, real estate firms and retailers. 

“I’ve never seen the type of response in my career as Championship director like the one we’ve received from the Greater Rochester, NY region,” said Bryan Karns, Championship director of the 2019 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. “From ticket sales and volunteers to the business community and local officials, the support Rochester has shown is bar-none. This has been the perfect combination of community and business. This year’s KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship will be epic thanks to the Greater Rochester community and the overwhelmingly positive support it has shown. We’ll keep the momentum and excitement going through Championship Week in May.” 

Dollars invested in the Greater Rochester region during Championship week will be reinvested into the community to support local businesses, charities, tourism efforts, higher education and the overall economic development of the area. Events like the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, that bring in significant revenue for the region, help Rochester turn good ideas into great businesses and innovations, and continue to drive the region’s economic engine.

In addition to the 80th KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, Oak Hill has hosted the Ryder Cup, the U.S. Open Championship, the U.S. Amateur Championship, the U.S. Senior Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. In 2023, Oak Hill Country Club will host the PGA Championship for a record-tying fourth time.
