Golf has been my life's passion since I began formally playing at age 13. Before that we used to play with the neighborhood kids in a field behind my house, using piles of grass for tees and whatever clubs and balls we found laying around. We aimed at trees, sheds, and woodpiles, and sometimes, each other. Born in 1970, I learned on ancient equipment that was little more than cut down cast-offs from friends' fathers; we knew less than nothing about playing golf on a real course.
Slowly the game's mystique took hold over some of us. At one point in high school, my golf team had 13 kids on it and 9 of them lived on my street! That neighborhood produced some fine players, but I was the only one who decided to turn professional and make a career out of it. It was a decision from which I have never once looked back. Every day I report to work in the golf business is another trip back to those glorious days of my youth when entire summers were spent chasing the small white ball.
I graduated from Penn State after majoring in Astrophysics, but a career in science was never an option for me. Instead I turned professional at 27 and landed at Chestnut Ridge CC in Lutherville, MD. It was a humble beginning to a career that is now over 25 years long and counting. Since 2009 I have been employed at Hayfields CC in Hunt Valley, MD. The intimate campus and generous, passionate membership make it easy to come to work each day.
We offer a full range of instruction at Hayfields, including private lessons, club fitting, group sessions for any size group, clinics, junior camps, and on-course playing lessons. Lessons are conducted both outside on our grass practice tees, and indoors in our state-of-the-art TrackMan studio.
It is my pleasure to meet new students any time; please feel free to reach out and let's connect for some golf!
