Coach Jack will set up and walk you through practice routines you can use to help bring your game to the next level. Subsequent lessons will consist of either repetitive block practices, encouraging new skill development, or a variable practice used to test and challenge your new skills on the course. NEED TO ARRANGE BEFORE BOOKING! On-Course Golf Playing Lesson An on-course playing lesson is designed to help a golfer turn their golf swing into better scores. Rather than focusing primarily on mechanics, the lesson teaches the player how to think, plan, make decisions, manage emotions, and execute shots under real playing conditions.The central goal is simple: play smarter golf with the game you have today. Most Important Areas of an On-Course Lesson 1\. Pre-Shot Routine & Commitment Develop a consistent routine that works for every shot: Assess the lie, wind, elevation, and conditions. Choose a specific target. Visualize the intended shot. Make one rehearsal with a purpose. Step in, aim, commit, and swing. Avoid standing over the ball thinking about mechanics. 2\. Course Management & Strategy Teach the golfer to make decisions that lower scores rather than simply hitting toward the flag. Identify the safest side of the hole. Understand where not to miss. Choose targets based on dispersion, not perfect shots. Favor the center or safe portion of greens. Know when to attack and when to play conservatively. Avoid bringing unnecessary hazards into play. 3\. Tee-Shot Strategy Before selecting a club, determine: Where is the widest landing area? Where is the major trouble? What distance brings hazards into play? What is the player’s normal shot pattern? Does driver actually provide an advantage? The goal is not simply to hit the fairway—it is to leave the best opportunity for the next shot.4. Approach-Shot Strategy Approach shots should be based on carry distance, dispersion, lie, hazards, and pin location. Know actual carry distances. Select enough club. Favor the large portion of the green. Adjust expectations from rough, bunkers, uneven lies, and poor angles. Recognize when the correct target is away from the flag. A major lesson: The flag is not always the target.5. Short-Game Decision Making Around the green, select the simplest shot that accomplishes the objective. Putt when possible. Chip when appropriate. Pitch only when necessary. Use loft when the situation requires it. Identify landing spot before selecting the club. Consider lie, slope, green speed, and amount of green available. Teach the player to answer: Where does the ball need to land, and how will it react afterward?6. Putting & Green Reading Focus on three priorities: Read → Speed → Start Line Read the entire putt before addressing the ball. Identify uphill/downhill and overall slope. Choose a start line. Match speed to the intended line. Develop a consistent putting routine. On long putts, prioritize distance control and eliminating three-putts. 7\. Uneven Lies & Real-Course Conditions The course provides situations that cannot be recreated perfectly on the range: Ball above feet Ball below feet Uphill/downhill lies Rough Fairway bunkers Trees and recovery situations Wind Sidehill stances Teach the player how these conditions change ball flight, club selection, setup, target, and expectations.8. Trouble & Recovery Shots When a player gets out of position, the priority changes from making birdie or par to preventing a big number.Use a simple rule:Get Out → Get Back in Position → Give Yourself a Next ShotAvoid turning one poor shot into two or three poor decisions.9. Mental Game & Emotional Control Observe how the golfer responds to: Bad shots Good shots Pressure Slow play Difficult holes Missed short putts Encourage a simple mental cycle:Plan → Commit → Execute → Accept → ResetOnce the ball has stopped, the previous shot is information—not something the golfer can change.10. Scoring Patterns & Statistics During the lesson, track more than the final score: Fairways/tee-shot effectiveness Greens in regulation Penalty shots Up-and-down opportunities Three-putts Approach-shot misses Club-selection errors Poor strategic decisions Shots lost from execution versus decision-making This helps separate swing problems from scoring problems. The Most Important Question Throughout the lesson, repeatedly ask:\*\*“What are you trying to accomplish with this shot?”\*\*Before the player hits, they should be able to explain the target, club, intended shot, safest miss, and reason for the decision. On-Course Lesson Philosophy A successful playing lesson should leave the golfer with fewer swing thoughts and better decisions. The player should finish understanding their tendencies, knowing their actual carry distances, choosing smarter targets, managing misses, controlling emotions, and following a repeatable routine.Great golf isn’t about hitting perfect shots. It is about making good decisions, committing to them, and managing the imperfect shots.
