Phil Mickelson whiffs on shot in third round of Masters

Published on

It's no secret that Augusta National Golf Club is hard.

And that's when you're in play. When you're out of play like three-time Masters champ Phil Mickelson was after an errant tee shot on the first hole in Round 3 on Saturday, it's near impossible.

Mickelson, who made the cut on the number at 5-over 149 after 36 holes, sent his opening tee shot in Round 3 well right and into the trees.

From there, he attempted to escape, but instead, whiffed his second shot:

Mickelson was able to get out of that mess with his third shot, but ultimately walked off with a triple-bogey 7.

Not an ideal start.
