Paul Claxton back in the hunt following a six-birdie 69 in Round 2

SEASIDE, Calif. -- Paul Claxton is no stranger to tournament golf.

The 50-year-old won twice in his days on the Web.com Tour and spent several seasons on the PGA Tour.

One year after a T3 finish in his first ever PPC, Claxton has himself right back in the mix again.

Claxton fired a 3-under 69 at Black Horse that included six birdies on Monday to pull back to even par for the tournament after Sunday's 75 to get right back in the tournament.

"It was a good day for me. I made six birdies today and made some putts early. The golf courses are playing tough. It's windy and tough. You've got to drive it real well here. I was real happy to shoot a score in the 60s. I needed it today after yesterday."

Claxton said that while his tournament experience certainly helps, it's also nice to return to a championship we're one has played well previously.

"It's always good to come back to a tournament you did well in, even if it's a different venue," he said. "I'm looking forward to having a good final two rounds. I'll just be trying to find the fairways. That's the key for playing these two courses. Bayonet is a strong test. I'll have to play well to contend."

And to contend, he's going to need to have the putter rolling like he did in Monday's round.

"I putted much better today," he said. "On Sunday, I made nothing. I had the morning greens today. They were a little smoother and rolled good. I was fortunate and feel very lucky to make a few today."
