Brooks Koepka becomes second player in last 66 years to win back-to-back U.S. Open titles

Brooks Koepka won the 2018 U.S. Open on Sunday and became just the seventh player to win the tournament in back-to-back years.

It hadn’t been done since 1988 and 1989. Here’s more information on the exclusive club Koepka just joined.

  • Koepka is the first player since Curtis Strange in 1988 and 1989 to win two U.S. Opens in a row.
  • Before Strange, the last player to win consecutive U.S. Opens was Ben Hogan in 1950 and 1951.
  • The rest of the list: Ralph Guldahl in 1937 and 1938; Bobby Jones in 1929 and 1930; John McDermott in 1911 and 1912; and Willie Anderson in 1903, 1904 and 1905.

Koepka stormed back into contention on Saturday after a fairly pedestrian first two rounds, and he didn’t run away from the pack like he did in 2017. Regardless, he played an incredibly difficult course with poise and skill. Koepka is a star on the rise.
