An absolutely visually stunning course that plays just as hard as it looks!! This incredible 18 hole course nestled in Amherst, VA is without a doubt the best course central VA has to offer! Designed by the late/great Sam Snead and Ed Carton (formally of the Tom Fazio Design Group) the beautifully designed and visually appealing Poplar Grove can challenge anyone from a 20 handicap to a 2 handicap. Bent grass greens and fairways give you lavish playing conditions and make you be accurate on every shot considering there is no first cut then rough lining the fairways, just rough! And I mean 3-5 inch deep fescue US Open style rough! The course is designed to reward the golfer who can be accurate on approach shots. The majority of the tee box are elevated so often, drives play shorter than they appear and there is one drivable 4th on the back 9 that is absolutely scattered with bunkers playing to an elevated green. Without a doubt, if you're in central VA, make a swing in and play a round. You won't forget it!!
