North-South runner up at Pinehurst receives special call from 2005 U.S. Open champ

Pinehurst No. 2 has been a special place for golfers from New Zealand.

Kiwi Michael Campbell won the 2005 U.S. Open there, while countryman Danny Lee -- enjoying plenty of success on the PGA Tour these days -- captured the 2008 U.S. Amateur.

On Friday, another Kiwi nearly snagged some Pinehurst glory of his own over on the No. 2 course.

James Anstiss, competing in the 117th edition of the famed North & South Amateur, made it all the way to the final before falling to eventual winner, William Nottingham, who won, 1 up.

While Anstiss didn't come out on top, he did experience a pretty cool moment.

Following his match with Nottingham, Anstiss received a phone call from Campbell.

During his time at Pinehurst, Anstiss was admiring photos and memorabilia of Campbell from the 2005 U.S. Open win. During his call with Campbell, Anstiss learned that the New Zealand legend was following his play at the North & South closely via Twitter while in Spain this week.

Classy move by Campbell and it clearly touched Anstiss.
