Tiger Woods wins Tour Championship for first PGA Tour victory since 2013

The wait is over. Tiger Woods is again a winner.

His career once in doubt after of a series of debilitating injuries and four back surgeries, the 42-year-old Woods won the Tour Championship on Saturday in the FedEx Cup Playoffs finale at East Lake Golf Club. Tiger finished 11-under for his first PGA Tour win since 2013.

It's been a long wait since Tiger won the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Aug. 4, 2013, which was his last victory on Tour before Sunday at East Lake:

  • 1,876 days have passed
  • 239 PGA Tour events, with 119 different winners, have been played

But now Tiger is again lifting a trophy.

The win comes days before the 2018 Ryder Cup. A captain's pick, Tiger is playing in the historic event for the first time since 2012.

Tiger nearly completed his comeback at the PGA Championship, when his final-round 64 left him only two shots back of winner Brooks Koepka.

The Tiger roars were definitely heard then. They were back again at East Lake Golf Club.

He started the final round at 12-under, three shots ahead of Rory McIlroy, who grew up idolizing Tiger, and Justin Rose. Tiger's birdie on No. 1 and a steady run of pars gave him what seemed like a comfortable lead going into the back-9. Though Tiger later had bogey troubles and Billy Horschel made a little run, Tiger won by two shots.

Rose ended up finishing tied for fourth at the Tour Championship, good enough to win the FedEx Cup. That might be the only time a $10 million prize was the footnote to a story. Rose birdied the last hole to clinch the FedEx Cup.

Sunday belonged to Tiger. It was PGA Tour win No. 80, only two shy of all-time leader Sam Snead.
