Last year: Charley Hoffman won his third PGA Tour title, shooting 66-68-67-66 for a one-stroke victory over Shawn Stefani.
 
Last week: Scotland's Russell Knox won the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in his first World Golf Championship event. Kevin Kisner was second, a stroke back. ... Peter Malnati won the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi for his first PGA Tour title, beating William McGirt and David Toms by a stroke in a Monday finish.
 
Notes: Knox and Malnati are in the field along with Matt Kuchar, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III and Las Vegas winner Smylie Kaufman. ... Kuchar is the top-ranked player in the field at No. 16. He's coming off a victory last month in Fiji. ... Love won the Wyndham Championship in August at 51 years, 4 months, 10 days to become the third-oldest champion in tour history. ... Carlos Ortiz is the top Mexican player in the world at No. 222. ... Greg Norman designed the El Camaleon course. ... Mayakoba is 35 miles south of Cancun on the Caribbean coast. ... Last week: Sun-Ju Ahn won the Toto Japan Classic for her first LPGA Tour victory and 20th Japan LPGA title. She beat fellow South Korean player Ji-Hee Lee and Angela Stanford with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff.
 
Notes: The tournament is in its second year in Mexico City after six in host Lorena Ochoa's hometown of Guadalajara. Ochoa won 27 LPGA Tour titles. She retired in 2010. ... Top-ranked Lydia Ko is skipping the tournament to rest. Second-ranked Inbee Park is making her first start since withdrawing in Taiwan three weeks ago because of a cyst on her left middle finger. ... Fourth-ranked Lexi Thompson is in the 36-player field. She won in 2013 in Guadalajara. ... The season-ending CME Group Tour Championship is next week in Naples, Florida.
