Nelly Korda pitches in for unlikely birdie at KPMG Women's PGA Championship

OLYMPIA FIELDS, Illinois -- We've all had that hole that doesn't go exactly according to plan. The one where getting up and down for par would be incredible and make bogey wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Nelly Korda found herself in that situation on the par-4 16th hole at Olympia Fields on Thursday in the first round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.

Facing a difficult pitch shot from the rough nearly against the bleachers after going deep with her approach shot, Korda was surely hoping to somehow walk away with a par.

Instead, she went ahead and surprised the gallery and herself with a birdie:

That birdie got Korda to 1 under for the day and inside the top 10 at the time.
