Four PGA Junior League golf regionals completed over the weekend

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (Sept. 20, 2016) – PGA Junior League Golf all-star teams spanning 15 states competed in four of the eight PGA Junior League Golf regional competitions this past weekend (Sept. 17-18).

Ten-player all-star teams, selected based on performance during the regular season, competed in a series of sub-regional competitions in their areas, with the winners earning a spot in one of the eight regionals held throughout the country. The eight regional winners advance to the PGA Junior League Golf Championship, held this year at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona Nov. 19-21. Team Georgia (Southeast) of Alpharetta, Team New Jersey (Mid Atlantic) of Hillsborough, Team Connecticut (Northeast) of Cromwell and Team California (Western) of Livermore were crowned regional winners over the weekend.

Three of the first four regional champions are repeat qualifiers from last year’s championship, held at Disney’s Palm Course at Walt Disney World Resort. Team Georgia (placed second in 2015), captained by PGA Professional Tom Joyce Jr., is making its second championship appearance; Team New Jersey (placed third in 2015), captained by PGA Professional Anthony Latham, is making its fourth championship appearance; and Team Connecticut (placed seventh in 2015), captained by PGA Secretary Suzy Whaley, PGA, LPGA, is making its third championship appearance.

There were some great moments in the first four regional competitions, including 13-year-old Drew Kim’s long putt to capture the Western Regional competition for Team California (VIDEO: https://vimeo.com/183298865).
