Getting in the Game? Where to Start?

Published on

So, you're ready to get in the game…Fantastic! Now, what to do? Where to start? The golf space can be a daunting one to navigate, but it doesn't have to be. There are so many ways and places to get started that will ease your entry into the game in a fun and affordable way.
Where to begin
One of the best places to start is with a local PGA or LPGA Professional. They work at local golf facilities all across America and are available to help you every step of the way. You can check in at your local golf course or the “Find a Teacher” page on
Once you’ve identified some golf Professionals in your community, it’s a good idea to try them out by signing up for just one lesson or clinic—like you do when you’re searching for a yoga instructor or spin studio.
No two golf facilities are exactly alike, so it’s important that you think through what’s most important to you:
  • Do you want a male or female instructor?
  • Does the facility’s staff make you feel warm and welcome when you call and arrive onsite?
  • Are there instruction and program offerings on the days and times of the week that fit your schedule?
  • Do they offer group instruction?
  • Are there affordable options for you?
Take time to “interview” any instructor you’re considering, in order to get your questions answered, and see if your initial rapport with them feels just right.
Are you ready to play golf?
A great way to learn the game is to start working with a PGA or LPGA professional near you. Equipment isn’t required, and you’ll gain an understanding of the basic fundamentals, rules and etiquette of golf. Plus, you’ll actually get out on the golf course to play.
Indeed, working with a professional coach can be your gateway to the game.
