On Course Scramble
Our goal in this clinic is to understand how to play better golf while on the course. As we know, not every shot in golf is the same. However, if we approach the game strategically and from a place of simplicity, we will be able to build good momentum and shoot better scores!
On Course Notes:
Tee Shot- Understand our shot pattern and what handicap the hole is. If we play a fade, we must be able to see the fade off the tee; not every tee shot needs to be hit with a driver. Also, if the hole is one of the hardest holes on the course, we will need to have a more disciplined approach with each shot.
Approach Shot- Not all flag sticks are meant to be attacked. Define if the flag is a red, yellow, or green light flag stick. Try your best to land below the hole. If the flag stick is a red light location, lets pass the ball to an area that will give us the best access to the flag to get up and down.
Short game & putting- Keep is simple if you missed the green. Define two wedges that bring contrasting shots. For example, I use a 54 and 58, but mostly I choose my 58 for control. I do however, have the option for a more aggressive 54.
3 L's: Lie, Loft, Landing.
Chip below the hole and putt on the high side.
Finally, the 4 phases of our shot. (Once your initiate the approach we have 13 seconds to pull the trigger)
Phase 1- The target, distance, hazards, wind, club, etc. and alignment to our target. Routine is everything.
Phase 2- Let go of expectations
Phase 3- Understand what went wrong and how to fix the glaring issue
Phase 4- Enjoy the day. Do body scans and breath!
Lets get out there and have more fun!
