Lexi Thompson meets with PGA Jr. League golfers at KPMG Women's PGA Championship

The LPGA’s Lexi Thompson stopped to meet PGA Jr. League players following her practice round on June 19, ahead of the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. Thompson serves as a PGA Jr. League Ambassador—along with golf greats Rory McIroy, Rickie Fowler and Michelle Wie; and most recently, NBA all-star Stephen Curry and U.S. Women’s Soccer star Alex Morgan. Thompson was presented today with a No. 11 PGA Jr. League jersey in honor of her 11 wins on the LPGA Tour, by the Hazeltine National Golf Club PGA Jr. League Team and Captain Chris Baisch, PGA Teaching Professional at Hazeltine National.
 
PGA Jr. League brings boys and girls together for fun, co-ed team golf experiences under the expert coaching of PGA and LPGA Professionals. In 2018, more than 50,000 boys and girls played on teams nationwide. In the Minnesota PGA Section, nearly 1,200 players have registered to play on PGA Jr. League Teams this year, and that number continues to grow, as it has already eclipsed last year’s total of 1,025 participants.

“It is an honor being an Ambassador for a program like PGA Jr. League that allows PGA and LPGA Professionals to create such a fun environment for the kids,” said Thompson, who has moved into the world No. 2 position after six top-10 finishes this season—including a win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic earlier this month. “I was lucky enough to grow up playing golf surrounded by great mentors, and I love that PGA Jr. League gives future generations of golfers these same opportunities.” 
 
The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, a collaboration of the PGA of America, KPMG, and the LPGA, combines the rich tradition of the LPGA Championship with the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit and the KPMG Future Leaders Program—all focused on the development, advancement, and empowerment of women on and off the golf course. One of five majors in women’s professional golf, the 2019 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (June 18-23) brings together 156 of the top female golfers in the world.
