Local Knowledge: 2012 WGC-Cadillac Championship

Can you ever remember a more exciting start to a PGA Tour season than the one we've seen so far in 2012? Yeah, neither can we.

And, folks, this week will be no slouch either, as all of the top-50 players in the world are a part of the field at Doral's Blue Monster for the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. Rory, Tiger, Luke, Lee, Phil, Keegan... they're all there.

Doral Resort PGA Head Professional Cory Head was kind enough to step away from his hectic schedule for a little Q&A before the players tee off.

Head talked about his experiences at Doral, Tiger Woods and more.

PGA.com: The Blue Monster at Doral Resort is one of the most well-known golf courses in the world. What's it like to go to work there each day and what's the most rewarding part of the job for you?

Head: Doral is like no other place that I have ever worked. Every morning, as new challenges arise, it's up to our team to figure out a solution and execute to the best of our ability. The high energy, excitement, great team and new experiences make Doral a great place to be.

Every time I see a golfer's face light up with a smile when you show them where the Blue Course is, it makes me proud to be a member of the Doral team. It really makes you feel special every single day you come to work.

PGA.com: In the past, Doral has been a very good venue for Tiger Woods. These last couple of years haven't been his best on the course, but things seem to be turning around. How beneficial do you think it will be for Tiger this week that it will be his third week in a row of competitive golf?

Head: I think this week will be great for Tiger! He's coming off a great final round at the Honda and two solid weeks of golf overall. His confidence is building and he always play's well at Doral. I think the momentum from this past Sunday combined with his knowledge of Doral is going to make for some exciting golf to watch.

PGA.com: Speaking of guys who have played well at Doral... Can you talk a little about why the course seems to fit Nick Watney's eye so well? He's the defending champ and came very close in 2009 when Phil Mickelson was victorious.

Head: I don't think that it fits his eye as much as it fits his game. Nick Watney is a very consistent player and came close back in 2009, but there were some things that still needed to be fine tuned. He is a methodical and extremely focused player while on the golf course. I believe that has been one of the biggest factors in his growing success and accomplishments over the past two years.

PGA.com: What do you most look forward to during tournament week?

Head: Tournament week is like no other week at Doral. The excitement and energy with the PGA Tour and its players being on property is truly one of a kind. Each day during tournament week is a unique experience. The unknown and new challenges each year are truly one of the best things about this week. It's a really enjoyable learning experience.

PGA.com: Final question. If there are any fans out there headed to the tournament for the first time, where would you suggest they hang out on the course?

Head: The grandstands behind No. 9 green are a great place to be. You have a great par 3 that can produce some exciting moments depending on where the pin location is. Hole 9 is also located next to the driving range, 10 tee, and the famous Blue Monster's 18th hole! If you time it correctly, you can watch players warm up, go through the turn, and catch their finish all in one area. The roars from the crowd at these three holes can be heard all over the course!

An absolute must-see would be behind 18 tee. Over Doral's 50-year history we have seen many tournaments won and lost with this one swing from the world's best! It's a tee shot like no other in golf and a must-have experience when coming to watch the tournament here at Doral.
