Top Instagram posts from 2016

It has been a very fun year on the Instagram account. We’ve enjoyed sharing with you some of the best photos and videos available to us throughout the year.

We laughed together as our favorite golfers did some hilarious things on the course. We cried together as we mourned the loss of one of the greatest golfers to play the game. And we did a lot of celebrating together as the US won its first Ryder Cup since 2008.

Let’s take a look back at some of the top moments of the year, as voted on by you, our Instagram followers through the act of liking or commenting on our posts.

9. Fan $100, Rory McIlroy $0

It doesn’t happen often, but on occasion, athletes have the opportunity to make a heckler eat their own words and send them back to their seat with a big ol’ slice of humble pie. Rory McIlroy tried this tactic with a boisterous fan on the putting green during a practice round at the Ryder Cup and put $100 on the line. Talk about your all time backfires.

8. Drink up, champs!

Jordan Spieth had a glass of champagne in his hands enjoying the celebration after the US won the Ryder Cup. But Phil Mickelson had to teach the youngster the first secret to post-championship celebrating: It always tastes better from the bottle.

7. A happy Tiger

It had been a year since Tiger Woods had played a competitive round of golf, and we had seen a lot of frustration from the 14-time major winner. But we all felt a sense of joy watching Tiger enjoy being back out on the course as an assistant captain for the US Ryder Cup team.

6. Patriotic Ryder Cup pairing
You can’t beat the Ryder Cup crowds, so you might as well join them. What better way show the Hazeltine crowd you hear them than to join in removing your cap and singing the national anthem as you walk up to the green.

5. This one was for Arnie
In the leadup to the Ryder Cup, the golfing world lost one of its true icons, Arnold Palmer. There were multiple gestures honoring The King at the Ryder Cup, but the ultimate respects were paid when members from the US team brought the Ryder Cup trophy they had just won to his memorial service.

4. It’s picture day!
Who doesn’t love picture day! Everyone gets all dressed up looking sharp for the camera. Clearly, you, our followers, like yourself a good team photo. We’re right there with you.

3. Remembering Arnie
4 Green Jackets, 1 U.S. Open title, 2 Open Championships, 6 Ryder Cup teams, 62 PGA Tour wins. 1 dynamic personality to capture the hearts of us all and take the game of golf to unthinkable heights.

2. The King has passed
On September 25, 2016, the golfing world came to a halt as we received news that one of the greatest to ever play the game had died. We will always miss you, Arnie.

RIP to The King.

1. The 23rd wheel

It’s rough being the third wheel on a night out. It’s really rough when you’re celebrating with 11 of your teammates getting a nice celebratory kiss from their lovely ladies. But when you’re Rickie Fowler, you just roll with the punches and land the best photo of the year.
